My friend and I were driving down the county road when we spotted something bright lime green in the middle. We stopped for a closer look, and it was one of those happy times when I hadn’t forgotten my camera. I took a couple of shots – one of the caterpillar alone, and then dropped the aspen leaf in for size reference. Then we eased the little fellow onto a sheet of paper and transported him safely to the nearby bushes. When I got home, I looked through my butterfly/moth book and online, and decided he (do caterpillars even have a gender?) must be a Cecropia moth in training. But I know there are a lot of butterfly and moth experts out there in Blogland, so please do correct me if this is something else.

Good for you for saving this critter! (I have a habit of tossing earthworms back into the grass after they wash into the road....Can't stand to see them die.)

Lovely creatures, I´m no expert so I don´t correct anything. Happy Sunday!
Very nice. It always makes me happy when someone "rescues" a caterpillar instead of immediately assuming it's a destructive, nasty thing, and squishes it. In our area, every few years we are invaded by the gypsy moth, and at other times we have tons of tent caterpillars that can become a real problem. People are so quick to assume any little crawling thing must to destroyed, when often they do develop into lovely butterflies.
