SPECTACLE (OSI)

as mid-winter dawns
even the Piper pauses –
quiet spectacle

The god Pan is mostly associated with spring and fertility, but I figured he must be abroad in winter, too, watching over the animals and plants as they sleep.

Gorgeous photo. I love your poem... and your comment made me chuckle. I see Pan sitting by the fire admiring winter's magnificent scenery while he rests for a bit.

You've caught the dawn perfectly in that photo. And the poem does it justice.

Excellent job with the theme.

The image of the piper pausing is wonderful. That he could stop for a moment to admire the dawn is a compelling thought.

What a lovely haiku and the photo is amazing. Both speak of slow still waiting.

The sun rising on the distant hills is quietly spectacular indeed. I feel is is simply to allow Pan to catch his breath and maybe to catch up with the cycle of nature as it goes round once more. Your haiku works well with the image and gives pause for reflection.

The spectacle seen from afar, the glorious sun on the mountains. Lovely and always beautiful.I lived within the mountains for a year and they became the boundary of my world for that time.

I also lived in the Drumheller region for a year, thus the Hoodoo reference in my spectacle. Thank you for your comment on that.

That poem is fantastic. It gives me such pause. I kept wanting to read it again and again. (And so I did.) Great photo to accompany it.

I read something about Pan last spring but for the life of me I cannot recall what it was, and at the time it struck me, as I had spent the entire morning walking in the woods feeling the presence of Pan.
