“Down to seeds and stems again”
on the radio
As some of you know, I'm really into music, especially oldies from the 50s-70s. This haiku is about the power of music to evoke memory, in this case, a humorously mournful tear-in-the-beer song by the country rock band Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, from the early ‘70s. I heard this song on an oldies station for the first time in decades, and instantly recalled the days when I got to know this quirky music, and the faces of people I didn't realize I'd forgotten. The reference here is to pot, and having only seeds and stems left would be like having only “old maids” and no popcorn. I’m not a pot smoker, but I do love popcorn, so I can appreciate the situation!

I'm thnking of the seeds of music...wonderful!
..such poetic allusions-
and the dusky harmoniousness of ideas..many thanks for sharing..
your poem gave me a chuckle and immediately brought the song to mind...I like how you've transformed the reference!
Thanks for the explanation. I never got into pot, but I do miss the 60s and the passion for life and change that seems to have left us these days.
Every song comes from a seed of an idea. Good take on the prompt. As for my music tastes, my collection is mainly from the 60s and 70s - I love the nostalgia.
I'm not familiar with the song or the group. I thought I'd heard all the 50's-70's songs! But I'm more of a doo wop kinda gal!
Sometimes those seeds of music get stuck in my head. How creative!
Like this and getting the back story really enriches my appreciation. I really like old 70s music. So glad I got by here today. Thanks.
Like your haiku, and like the link. Now there's a song I never expected to hear aain.
a pleasant walk down memory lane...
Nice Post..Thanks again for stopping by my blog. Hope you stop back again!
Such a creative take on the prompt!
Isn't it strange how an old song can bring back a place and time so well? Maybe memories are planted like seeds in our brains.
I love it. I was just reading an article about "The Gospel According to Bruce Springsteen," and the author makes the same point--that the music goes to our core.
Great stuff. Thanks.

Wow, what a great idea, Deb. The seeds of music run deep in our memory.
I'm glad you explained this!! :) Now, I get it and love it!
Very clever!
Are you trying to say that you've been smoking popcorn kernals, old maids and all? That explains a few things...
Smiles and gratitude for your voice--
Beth
