I took this on September 9th in front of my house, looking towards the neighbors. Around here the nights are, as the old saying goes, “blacker than the inside of a cow.” There are no streetlights on my road; it’s just a two-lane with no sidewalks, and cottages on both sides. Behind these in the photo is the lake; the other side is bound by farmers’ fields. The road follows the shore until it ends at the tip of Point Pelee, a spit of sand that is the southernmost point of Canada, extending just south of the 42nd parallel (equal to the southern border of Oregon). There’s a slight bit of camera movement in this shot; I was holding my breath because I didn’t have a tripod.
Standing out by the road in the almost perfect darkness, trying to capture the moon and Jupiter in my camera reminded me of the song,
Calling the Moon.

Neat Photo...Thanks for posting
Great shot for SWF. It always amazes me how small the moon can look from here and other times it can seem huge.
that is so lovely. I've never taken a moon shot I like.
Oh to have a street with no glaring lights! What a concept.
Beautiful shot! This has been one of those rare times here in Seattle when I've been able to watch the moon each night as it's moved through it's phases and I love it. Thanks. I still haven't mastered getting my sky shots on Sky Watch, but I have posted them on my blog.
Oh yeah I know how hard it can be to take good pictures in the dark. The best is of course to use a tripod, or if not, just stand still and hold your breath and hope for the best. And this pictures is very nice - cause you did it!
Have a nice weekend my friend.
How nice to live on a street with no lights! You must have a wonderful view of the stars on a clear night.
Since you live so close to Point Pelee you must see a large variety of birds migrating north and south. WOW!
The moon is always so enchanting. Nice capture. I'm horrible with nighttime moon pictures!
happy skywatch friday
Lovely. I would love living where there are no street lights around to outshine stars and moon.
We only have one light on our street and it's nice having it darker cause you can see more stars. Looks like you live in a good spot.
Simply incredible foto. love your blog!
This is lovely. I wish I lived where there were no streetlights!
Thanks for your visit and comment on my blog.
Neat perspective and unique shot! Well done!
Cheers, Klaus
Hello! Thank you for visiting my blogsite (Miranda) and leaving a comment.

It looks like you may have also captured Venus, the Evening Star in your photo. While your photo displays the night sky, the music evokes the emotional setting that such a scene can create. Both lovely.
Those moon shots can be difficult. Even with a tripod you can still get some camera shake! "Louis" is glad you persevered!
@ Ann - Thanks for reminding me - the news that night said the planet was Jupiter, I'll go edit that in!
Thanks to all for your comments.
"blacker than the inside of a cow" : hahaha, that's a wonderful expression, I like learning expressions in other languages, they are always so plastic. That dark does not exist here, lights everywhere, too much.
YOu did a good job, night shots are always hard with out a tripod. Great skywatch photo! I have video up on my blog of Ikes aftermath.
I don't know that figure of speech but it sure does make the point! Great shot!
