SERENDIPITY (OSI)

I spent too long looking for it. Should have just left; then I wouldn’t have been late. But I was annoyed. I’m usually careful about misplacing things. Finally, there it was, one corner sticking out from under the cabinet. How in the world did it get under there? (rhetorical question). Then – look, there's something else I hadn’t seen in a while; didn’t even know it was missing! What a happy accident. Life with cats is always serendipitous.

I know I was bad
but wait, just look at this face
and try to scold me

This is my first take-a-deep-breath-and-go-for-it attempt at haibun, combining short prose with haiku. I most certainly bent the rules, but it was fun to write. And thanks to Sweeney for keeping still for the photo…what a good girl!

What a joyful piece, Deb! That's really wonderful. And the narrative is something I can identify with. I love "happy accidents."

some real truth here!! it reminds me of how many times i had to deal seriously with my children, when all the while a smile (even a laugh) was bubbling just below the surface! (& i so enjoyed your haibun...who needs rules?!?!) :-)

What fun, Deborah! Having 2 curious cats myself, I can relate! Everything is a toy and certainly everything is theirs! Hi Sweeney, from Gandalf & Grayson!

BTW, I grew up in a home with with 2 parents, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and 2 grandparents. There were never enough bathrooms! (My Bellavia is one of my Sisters!)

Aren't animals wonderful? And they add so much love and fun to every day that I'm not sure how anyone gets along with out at least one be it cat or dog or other. I've had both and love them both. When my kids were little we also had bunnies, gerbils, birds along with three dogs and two cats. Fortunately, we had a big house and a really big yard and needed ever inch of it. Thanks for the reminder.

I agree. Life with cats is serendipitous. I have one on the bed beside me now.

Sweeney is an adorable cat! She was very good to sit there and pose for you! I too am a cat lover, I'm a sucker for the lost and lonely ones especially! Great post, enjoyed it so much! You asked who the pictures of my Koala Bears reminded you of? I'm not sure who it reminds you of, but they kind of remind me of maybe Rodney Dangerfield or W.C. Fields or Jimmy Durante. Are any of these people who you are thinking of? Or were you meaning the black nose on Sweeney kind of reminded you of nose on the Koala Bears? If you think of who it is, write me back, you've got me straining my brain now too! :)

Wasn't it Steve Martin who famously said that "he doesn't trust cats!" That was the "wild and crazy" Steve Martin, so his sentiments may have changed (evolved).

Deborah, just blame it on the poor cat! That Sweeney wouldn't hide a thing under the furniture. Well, do you think it could have been an accident?
I really did like your vignette followed by the poem. It became the puzzle pieced together.

OK, when it hits you and you think of it, be sure to let me know! We are all stumped and so curious now!! Thought for sure it was WC Fields...oh well... Glad you wrote back, Also, I meant to tell you that I have had the a similar problem when trying to leave comments and comments not taking. It's really just one blog so far, but it is a blog that finds your past comments and links your last comment to the current one. If you figure that out too, let me know and I'll do the same if I by chance figure out what might have started it to do this.

I love it. And, I agree who could blame that sweet, innocent face?

Just try, indeed! That was a delight to behold.

From one cat lover to another I too found this delightful. Congratulations on your attempt at something I haven't tried myself.

why isn't everything for me to play around with?

That's what we call "cat involvement" at our house (of 9 cats).
