SKYWATCH FRIDAY – Infinity Pool (Lake Erie)

The morning I took this, the light on the lake was like nothing I’d seen before (click to enlarge). It reminded me of a beautiful and placid infinity pool. The light played tricks with the water, the horizon and the sky, and made it difficult to tell where each one left off and the next began. This first photo shows Pelee Island floating mysteriously, like Bali Hai in South Pacific. The second photo is just a slight shift to the right. The island is out of the frame, and there are two boats barely visible on the all-but-invisible horizon, to help the eye and brain sort things out. In person, the cloud reflections didn’t show up quite as much as in the photo, and the effect was even more illusory.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE and a PERPLEXING SITUATION

When you go to leave comments here, you’ll notice I have a message that describes a certain kind of comment box on other peoples’ blogs that I am not able to use. This is what the comment format looks like:

Thanks for taking the time to comment! Please add a link to your blog in you don’t use Blogger!
(box for typing comment)
Comment as: Select profile…(drop-down menu with the usual choices)
Post Comment Preview
(clicking Post Comment brings up an Edit box, then clicking Post Comment only brings up an error icon at the bottom of my monitor screen)

I’m encountering that format more often, not only on blogs I would like to get to know better (Laura/Peach at Silence is Broken is one) but now I’ve discovered the same problem with two more blogs where I have previously been a frequent commenter - Bobbie at Almost There, and as of today, I could not post a comment to Sandy Carlson at Writing in Faith. Other bloggers are obviously not having a problem with this format. Perhaps it’s the kind of template I’m using that’s causing the incompatibility? My technical expertise on such matters is low-to-non-existent, and I can never get anywhere with Blogger Help site, so if anyone out there can offer any suggestions as to how to solve the problem, I would dearly love to hear from you. You can either post it as a comment or send me an email at dgodin11@gmail.com. Thanks from Deb!

Your photos are wonderful. The sky is terrific, but I think the tranquil water is what pulls the whole scene together.

I wish I could help your technical problem. I don't have problems with those, but there are definitely more and more. I encountered a different kind yesterday that was new, with which I've had problems since. But I can usually get it to work after a couple of tries. I that were to happen all over, I certainly wouldn't have time for a couple of tries!

Wonderful! Great shots.

Deborah, I used to have a problem with certain comment boxes until I updated my browser. That may be your problem too. Good luck!

Great photo, both technique and the mood it conveys.

I heard a rumor that blogger was acting up today - might that be related to your comment problem?

Pilots have stories of flying over the ocean with no land in sight, and losing the ability to reference the horizon and becoming disoriented ... sounds like you had a similar experience from the ground.

I see what you mean by the island in the first photo, so interesting and lovely.

I understand your frustration with the comments. I have to enable 'scripts' i order to post on some blogs. Another thing I kind of resent is leaving an email address. And then there are the code words you cant quite make out.

Anyway, back to your photos. Very nice. So tranquil and serene. Nice photos.

Thanks to all for helpful hints not to mention comforting sympathy over the Blogger comment situation! Blogger has been having "issues" lately, and seems to be better now. as for the rest, it certainly could be my browser - I didn't like IE7, went back to 6. Meanwhile, I'll just leave as many comments as I can!

I have only seen Lake Erie in the winter and from a plane.

When enlarged, the island hangs in the sky and in the other there is no here or there it is all one like what to my mind God is, God is just all that is.
Great photos, most people woul just have walked on by, I'm glad you were more discerning.

These are wonderful photos! I see the difference. I am always fascinated by horizons that disappear altogether. Great stuff.

I wonder what the commenting problem can be. I find I can't go directly to your blog from the email notification but I have to go through my blog. This is not a problem at all. I have been receiving your comments, though, so I don't know what the hitch is.

Thanks for being a faithful visitor!
