SALUTATION TO THE SUN

I noticed this morning that some people have their photos up for the Shadow Shot Sunday meme. Like all memes with a particular day in the title, this one messes with different times zones around our glorious rotund globe. Not to worry, time is just some big ol' Buddhist joke anyway, I'm convinced!

I haven't participated in this "delightful" meme yet, and I probably won't get to it this weekend either, but I did give me the idea to post this photo from yesterday. It was gloomy snowy, sleety, rainy by turns all day until late in the afternoon. Then the sun broke through, and lo and behold - a shadow! Everyone was excited! I grabbed my camera; the birds all distributed themselves among the branches and even perched on my window sill to catch some of the welcome warmth. That's my old feeder hanging on the tree. I'm trying a different location and a different feeder this year, which explains the absence of footprints. Otherwise it would have looked more like the photo below, from last year: lots of tracks back and forth to the feeder. And one side trip just to look at the ice.

Oh, it looks so frozen and cold! and yet so beautiful! an almost frozen ray of sunlight -- kind of like that faint hope for our country that everyone is feeling today. Our world here in Seattle looks very much the same, very cold, very frozen, but with some faint rays of sun peeking through. I'll take all the glimmers I can get! Thanks, as always, for a beautiful post!

I love both these photos...there were actually shadows here yesterday for about 10 minutes. I think the first time to see shadows in many days.

so simple and elegant

sunshine and shadow. the cats too wake up from dark napping corners whenever a tiny bit of sun peeps thru --they want it, however small the ray, however short lived it is.

You must have been an early bird to catch the footprintless shadow.

You soar Little Wing. Birdy blessings for your well composed 12 Days of Christmas rewrite. I also love the pics and humbly suggest the following titles for them. The 2008 shot I call "The Poet's Tree," and the 2007 shot I call "I Am the Middle Pillar." I've been inspired to write a poem for each photo and will try and post them on my webspace asap.
