SKYWATCH FRIDAY - Bright and Cold

An Alberta Clipper blew in from the west last night last night, and we woke up this morning to minus 22 degrees Celsius, or about minus 3 Fahrenheit. Either way you look at it, that's pretty (insert expletive of choice) chilly. At least it's not windy. But minus 22 is nowhere near my personal "best" for winter. That record was set when I was living in the Alberta foothills, and experienced straight temps of minus 40C (at minus 40 degrees, Celsius and Fahrenheit meet) quite regularly there. Add in the wind chill and the temps there can just about fall off the charts. So if I keep in mind how cold I have been, perhaps today's temperature here on Lake Erie's north shore won't seem so bad. Nah, who am I kidding, it's still cold!

Brrrrr Deb...I have never lived up north so cannot imagine those kinds of temperatures. However, somebody opened the freezer door in Tennessee. Our low this morning was 10 degrees. We’ve had some snow–but just a dusting. It’s blowing around in the air mostly!!!

I gave my birdies some extra breakfast this morning!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Crystal clear and beautiful! Great photo! I have to admit it's cold enough for me here and believe me it's no where near yours! Again, I'm reminded of my Montana winters!

This week is definitely not what the January thaw is all about! I love this branch. It looks like it has worked hard to reach for the sun.

love this crooked old branch! It was -18 last night. You're still colder!

Yep, minus 22 is cold for sure! It was minus 24 here. Does that make you feel a teensy bit better? No, I didn't really think it would. ;-)

Nice photo. It says "cold."

You have earned your badge for braving such cold temps. Well at least you have blue skies, right?

My skies are no warmer than yours! It was -25C here in Kitchener this morning. Can -40C feel much worse? I don't want to find out! Lovely photo of our clear, cold skies.

The air must be quite bracing today in your neck of the woods. Yikes! Now you are getting it. Love the shot here. It says pretty much that it's cold! Here they call that a bluebird sky.

So cold! I can't imagine going through cold like that. I love your capture with the icicles on the tree... fortunately, I can experience that through you vicariously... without the cold!

COOL! :)

Love this shot! I've looked up at many a branch from this perspective! It sounds like you have experienced colder temps than I, though I can come close with -35F and wind chills of -50F when I lived in Presque Isle, ME! Believe me, I don't miss it!

At least you have the beautiful blue sky - that helps, at least a little.

It was -1 F when I left for work this morning. I think it's the first time I've experienced below-zero temps in my life. (Yes, sheltered - I know!)

Hi there,
Stunning portraiture!I love trees and sky- am an artist and photographer. Unusual photo, too. (That was my "hot air" to warm it up where you are hehe, but in a serious way about your photo.)

That photo describes the cold perfectly, doesn't it? It's cold here but gosh, overcast skies and no blue skies! Maybe tomorrow!

When you're there and the temps below zero, its cold no matter where you are!! And its getting that way down here in the Maritimes now too.

Lovely skywatch photo.

You better believe it, that's cold! And while I am glad to have some snow, I don't enjoy the being cold to the bone just from stepping outside. I like that picture--about to forget to tell you that!

I am sitting down here on the Gulf Coast shivering. Enough already. Please don't send any more cold our way.

I like the photo.

Beautiful photo en the color of the sky is great.

Now that is cold. It would be too much for me. Years of living in the south have softened me up. I love the ice on that poor crooked branch..

Whoa, chilly! And that is a cracking icicle if you don't mind me saying so! I'm relieved that our UK cold snap is over, beautiful though it was...
