All through December we had very little snow, plus some unseasonably mild temperatures here on the north shore of Lake Erie. But once the calendar and the year flipped over, like much of the rest of the continent, we got huge falls of snow, and very cold temperatures. We are now deep in the heart of winter.
The day I took this photo of my front window, everything seemed white. It was calm at the moment, but high winds in the night had spackled snow on the sides of all the houses and trees. Deep drifts and hoarfrost robbed the day of its colors almost as surely as the moon blanches the colors at night. When I went out with my camera to capture this monochrome world, for a brief moment the faint sun broke through. The pale floral tints held captive in that looking-glass world seemed to promise, “Look for us to bloom in spring!”

Spring you say? How soon can I expect it? Can I put in an order for it to arrive sooner? I am always ever hopeful and optimistic with each blush of the distant sun. I love watching for and seeing signs of spring at this white, frozen, time of year. Thanks for the view :-)

I always think of the heart of winter starting around now (George Washington's birthday and ending around the first day of March) March is the trickiest month ever! it gives us 78F days and Blizzards! (and here, April sometimes acts all Marchy for a week or two. but by the time mid March arrives the heart has long gone out of winter. We have our seed catalog selections made, and deliveries of bare root roses are planned, and so it's over in a sense, even if a Nor'easter blizzard howls through on April fools day we just wave it off and smirk, as we know we'll be planting peas soon.We are not in a winter frame of mind, even as we shovel snow. I laugh at spring snow HaHa! and shovel it happily! let winter have one more fling. Spring comes in our hearts first anyway, before the equinox.
kind of like the grinch not being able to wreck things for the woos,, nothing can freeze the spring inside our hearts when March arrives. Look how time flies past us...

I love this view. We are deep in the heart of winter. I love the cold and stillness. There is a silence in your image that comes right through my screen and envelopes me. It very, very nice.
And it must be very nice to be on the other side of that window looking out on the wonderful sky, too!
