held captive by cold
waves that laughed and played must wait
summer’s day to come
sun warms the season
summer’s day stretches itself
cold now forgotten
The summer photo is of the waves hitting my section of the breakwall; the winter shot about a mile west of me. The ice in that shot is so high it completely blocks the resident's view of the lake! I hope that doesn't ever happen to me, but it's hard to predict with all the variables of shoreline, temperature, wind, lake level and precipitation in any given years.

Wonderful shots Deb... I love the winter one.. Seeing that ice must be breath-taking. I love seeing waterfalls that are icy. I'll post some of our icy waterfalls sometime.
Have a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Betsy
Lovely prose and so fitting.
I love the movement of the waves (white caps and spray) I've never seen icy waterfalls on /in a lake before. Today I'm featuring a Great lake related book which I will guess you've read.
never lived by a lake...looks interesting..
Beautiful poetry. Pictures to match. Frozen spray and waves are awe-inspiring.
Deb, don't forget Mr. Linky; I don't see your name there.
that first one is a dancing jewel.
Beautiful words, beautiful pictures! Surely captures the feeling. Even though I'm tired of the cold already, the frozen spray and the waves are really beautiful. Thanks!
You capture the amazing power of winter so beautifully!
I have seen ice build up along rivers up north like that. But the power behind that huge lake is something else. The summer scene is my favorite, for sure. Nice poems.
..the way u've portrayed them here summer & winter appear like the hero & the heroine of some epic, saga or romance..many thanks for this ..
Your work reminds me of how fast I forget the cold of winter in summer and the searing heat of summer in winter. I wonder why that is. I love the frozen waves and the frolicksome free ones!
Beautiful sight !
Great photos and words, expressing the two extremes.
i love the progression of the two haikus. i like how you don't start with *summer* but show that it is soon to come.
The precipitation in the first shot is awesome. It must be lovely to have a lake nearby but I don't envy you the cold. Your haikus show the contrast well - being 'held captive' and 'stretching'.
summer's always seem to be long way away especially when surrounded by the cold, you expressed that quite well
I particularly love the first half - the image of a wave snap frozen, in ice and by the camera, it's weight and density. It's very exotic for me - no snow/ice winters where I am. Lots of hot summer though!
Your captive waves are incredible! My sister just recently sold her house on a lovely large lake in Maine. Lake management always lowered the lake in late fall. To my knowledge they never experienced that wall of ice, certainly I never saw it.
As much as I would love to say I always live in the moment, along about mid-season I start to look forward to the next season.
From one extreme to the other...I felt chills with the first and then wonderful warmth with the second. Lovely read!
Deborah soon our shores will be of warm breezes with sun glistening on the water instead of on the ice and snow!Love the two seasons photos and prose!
I love your line, "waves that laughed and played must wait". Its so perfect to depict this frozen season but it also holds a suggestion that its just a frame caught in time, waiting until season change. I think we both had a common thread with our seasonal theme.
great take on the prompt Deb!
The sun and the splashes look awesome !!!! the green grass enhances the image !!! The poetry is sweet !!!!
Unique Adjective or not !!! Gotta use what you gotta use !!!
lovely captures and wonderful poetry!
Lovely pictures and words
I had no idea! What lovely photos and accompanying words... Of course, I prefer the summer one...:)
Great expressions here, Deb.
Dear Deborah--
Loved the captured play of icy waves--that's a really good line!
And likewise the line abou summer forgetting about the winter...
really good!
Loved the pics too--
Hope that icy build up doesn't happen to your view, either!
Thanks--
Hi Deborah, you have a wonderful poem. We have to go memories and pictures to remember that 'summer's day.'
Do you think the ice plays the same game as the waves as it piles up? Hmmm?
Thanks for coming late last week, I'm late again (but home now, on Tuesday).
