WATERY WEDNESDAY – Feeling the Effects of the Lake Effect*

Here’s a tiny little waterfall located just east of my computer. I sincerely hope you like the view; it’s the best I could muster for WW this week. Really, you ask? Well, yes, pretty much. Despite all my whining in my previous post, spring is not giving us a break on the Lake Erie north shore. The weather forecasters have us down for 15-25 cm or 5-9 in of s*** (the other S word) today. We’re well over ankle deep already. And that would be new snow, added to the huge honkin’ piles of it we already have (do I sound bitter?). Not only that, it’s been so cold around here that there is no open water to be found, so one must make do when posting for a watery meme (hence the homemade waterfall).

For those of you who live in where it is warm and sunny right now, I’ll throw in a photo (taken from inside!) of some of our local frozen falling water, just for fun, because you’re at a safe distance from it! And thanks to all of you who left such encouraging comments yesterday; I’m feelin’ the love!

* Lake-effect snow is produced in the winter when cold winds move across long expanses of warmer lake water, providing energy and picking up water vapor which freezes and is deposited on the lee shores. The same effect over bodies of salt water is called ocean effect snow, sea effect snow, or even bay effect snow. The effect is enhanced when the moving air mass is uplifted by the orographic effect of higher elevations on the downwind shores. This uplifting can produce narrow, but very intense bands of precipitation, which deposit at a rate of many inches of snow each hour and often bringing copious snowfall totals. The areas affected by lake-effect snow are called snowbelts. This effect occurs in many locations throughout the world, but is best known in the populated areas of the Great Lakes of North America. I know it is pain to be so housebound and having to wear layers upon layers to stay warm, but it is beautiful (your shot from indoors) but I have to admit I like your indoor waterfall! Very clever! Stay warm and you can be as bitchy as you like, I surely would understand!

Well... hmmm, I sure wish I could ship the 70 degree muggies up to you. Ever thought of a house swap? I would love to see that kind of snow, but I know I wouldn't want to be house bound. I'd get "cabin fever."

You made me laugh with the "home waterfall" ~ gee, I see a lot of that one at home too. Lol.

LOL! I love your home made waterfall. See, the creativity really comes out when your options are slim.

Stay warm! :-)

Yes, we're getting tons of snow here today too, Deborah. Not good news but it is still January and...oK, OK...enough already, you say? ;-)

Clever idea for a waterfall!

We had an few inches of snow today. and I noticed how happy the birds were that I put out so much seed. My yard is the place to be if you're a bird. And it's nice to just sit and watch them.

That is absolutely hilarious!! (Coulda been the flusher, I suppose) I'm still grinning and giggling....

I am so NOT looking forward to returning to the freshly fallen snows of Utah tomorrow. I was walking to a bookstore a few blocks away from my son's home this morning... in t-shirt, capri's and flip flops... thinking about how much I love being at the beach soaking up California sunshine instead of shivering in my jamies and alpaca slippers in the frosty landscape of home. I'm not ready to go back. I keep asking Wayne to please, puhleeeeze let me stay another month. Of course, that won't work... Cordell is moving this week-end and my bed and shower will be taken away. Oh well... it was heavenly while it lasted.

I love your home waterfall. But I do hope you will soon be able to find liquid water outside as well.

We have had snow all day here, too. No end in sight,
I am getting muscles from shoveling-is that a good thing??

Imagine you are breathing in the scent of fresh lavender (in the garden, not the linen closet) and think of spring. We will get through this!

Hi Deborah! Very creative. I don't blame you for not going out. We had a big snow storm here too:o) About an inch and then the temps rose and the snow turned to rain. Had to shovel slush from my walk this morning. Seriously though, I do love your photo. Lisa

I know how you feel today. I'm commenting here late because we've had snow and ice and I didn't have power for almost eight hours.

Homemade waterfall - that's right up there with my glass of snow. :)
Thanks for visiting.

Now I'm gonna be laughing every time I put a new load in the washer. LOL I love the unique take on the theme and the humour for don't we all need it at this time of year?! I'm really with Shelley and his wondering, "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" And I recite this optimistically for I look out at my snow covered street, after yet another heavy snowfall, noting that I haven't seen any school buses pass by yet. Probably another snow day.

I did like your finding a waterfall inside. March is just weeks away! I'm using these weeks to get some serious reading done.
