We aren’t quite out of winter’s grasp yet, but there are signs of melting out on the lake. Soon there will be groans and cracks as the breakup begins, and then the torrents below will pour through, flooding the snowy windswept plains and sinking the ranges of piled up ice. Already I’ve seen some gulls, tentatively circling over the frozen terrain, like Noah’s doves, only they are searching
for open water.
This photo was taken directly into the bright afternoon light, creating the white and purple beam, descending like a promise.

"descending like a promise" You do have a way with words. It is a beautiful promise, Deborah.
What a lovely capture. It's hard to imagine that lake frozen... wow!
It does indeed take your breath away. Really gorgeous! the light on the water/ice, and the promise. Perfect!
Isn't that amazing. Cameras are such amazing inventions! Hope you get open water out your front door soon. We are in a blizzard....
I guess it would be your back door; if you had it out your front door you'd be in trouble!

Betsy

It is a beautiful shot...
My first thought when I saw the photo was the same as Kathie's but then I read your words and the image became more emotional - beautiful Deborah!
Forgot to say my post is at my new photoblog.Hope you'll visit.
My post is at Carletta’s Captures.
Love that ray of sunshine and the color it makes against the ice. Gorgeous!!
A nice photo for SkyWatch Friday. As one who is always interested in what other people do, and looking for ideas, I think I found some here. I just have to remember it and at my age that is no small feat.
Have a nice weekend.

Good capture, heres hoping your spring comes soon.
I love the rays beaming down. Enjoy the weekend.
It IS winter but it's still lovely. Since winter isn't over yet, I hope you think like I do that all the seasons are beautiful. Winter is just a little more of a challenge to find the beauty. LOL (And YOU found some.)
Awesome shot!! Winter will go soon.
Lovely shot. I've seen the gulls standing on ice here, but the Bay is still open for them.
Great picture and interesting comparison to the ark. The river in our community has cast off huge blocks of ice on its banks. At least most of the lake ice just sinks.
This has a real silver shimmer that is spine tinglingly beautiful.
Beautiful sunbeams, Deborah.
Do you think gulls need better press? They do look a lot like doves from a distance, but most people like doves.
the beam is stunning!!
Almost like the purple beam was meant to help dissolve the ice! Wonderful photo!
how very beautiful!
I like that white purple beam. It adds beauty to the photo. And spring will come ...
lovely catch!
beautiful photo.

Oh how beautiful this is!
Wonderful scene!
The sunlight on the water... the wild stirring of things beneath the surface.
and beneath the surface of the ground too... you can feel it in the woods, even though the air is bitter cold.. something's happening. and this weekend March begins, the month we must be extra brave in, weatherwise! What happened to Jan & Feb, passing so quickly????
Hi Deborah,
This is a beautiful picture. What got me about it was that one beautiful ray of light from above - it says so much and has so many beautiful meanings...
