MORE CANDIDATES FOR THE DARWIN AWARDS?

Just think how stupid the average person is,
and then realize that half of them
are even stupider!"
--George Carlin

If I were to give these two guys the benefit of the doubt, I could say they have probably lived here a lot longer than me, maybe all their lives, and thus may know the ice conditions better than me, but there's no way I would have gone out on the ice yesterday afternoon. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. I could not believe my eyes when I looked up from my computer and saw them heading out, each carrying an end of the yellow boat. As you can see from their reflections, there's liquid water on top of the ice. It's not deep, but still... A few days ago I took photos of the cracks in the ice along the shore, and it didn't look good then. Remember those ice fishing guys in Ohio a few weeks ago who drove their ATVs over a crack in the ice by putting down plywood, and ended up having to be rescued by helicopters and airboats? All I could think of watching these two was, Whadaya nuts?! I watched these two 'til they climbed up to the top of that pile of ice and disappeared. I don't know what happened to them after that. Maybe they figured if the ice broke, they could always jump in the boat. Except they didn't take it with them to the summit.

These fellows may have turned out all right (we hope) but those who don't do not depart unrecognized; visit The Darwin Awards site (but be sure to have a bowl of Black Humor Krispies for breakfast, first)

Just plain stupid in my opinion!!! I don't know why some people take such risks. Don't those guys realize that they may/probably have loved ones waiting for them to return???.. GADS!!!!

Great choices for your awards, Deb.
Hugs,
Betsy

Human stupidity at its best. I too have no idea what causes people to take risks such as that. I can't even imagine.

Your posts linger in my mind - in fact I refer to Lake Erie in a post!

Crapadoodle doo. I totally get the urge for goin' out on the water but these guys give boat people a bad image! Is that a yellow canoe?
A blonde is driving her car and sees another blonde out in a field sitting in a canoe paddling like crazy. The blonde in the car stops and yells: what in the heck are you doing? The blonde in the boat shouts: I'm canoing! The other blonde yells: it's people like you who give us all a bad name and if I could, I'd swim out there and kick your butt.

If they had gotten in trouble you would have had been a witness to it, and that would not be pleasant. There seems to me a lot of risk takers around, or maybe you are right, they are just plain stupid.

Mensa members gone astray....

I started to ask, what are they thinking? and then I realized that's the problem -- they aren't thinking! or least not very clearly! Why some people do the things they do will continue to amaze me!

My Dad always says, "There's a fine line between being brave and being stupid." I think those guys crossed the line.....

hehe, we say "La madre dei cretini è sempre incinta" (that I think it could sound like "idiot's mum is always pregnant") :)

...I payed a vist to the link you posted and I saw the picture of a man who was sawing a branch of a tree to the wrong part...well, my father knew a man who really did that! #_#

You have one good view from your back window. It makes me think when I do similar stupid things that somebody is always watching!

I get so mad at these people that take risks on the ice - and it's not because they're risking their lives - it's because they are risking the lives of the people that have to save them - fireman and policeman and paramedics. Those 3 professions have better things to do then help someone who self inflicts danger on themselves!
P.S. George Carlin was my favorite ever!

Incredible! And of course they never consider the time, danger and money involved in getting them out of whatever predicament they get themselves into.

Thanks for the Italian version - hilarious!

As Betsy said, just plain stupid. Must be a southern expression but that was my first thoughts also.

Oh My! I hope they survived! I've seen the Darwin awards before. Hopefully these 2 haven't reproduced!
