SKYWATCH FRIDAY – Floating Sky (Lake Erie)

Yesterday afternoon, a slow-moving thunderstorm rolled through, and when the clouds lifted over Ohio, the light brought beautiful reflections to the calm water. The mountainous landscape of ice piled up by last December’s wind and waves is sinking as surely as Atlantis, if less dramatically than what Plato described. Before long the islands will disappear completely into the chilly water. The gulls have already returned. There’s enough water on top of the flat ice for them to swim, and when the rest of the ice departs, the mergansers and other deep-diving birds can make a living here.

EXTRA, EXTRA! A friend sent me these cool SKY PHOTOS she found on flickr; maybe some of you have seen them already. Quite inventive sky shots!

Lake Erie looks a bit grey but it's sooo nice to see the ice is melting. ;-)

So tranquil - hard to believe there had just been a thunderstorm.

lovely shots, I would have thought the ice would have gone with all this warm weather we have had?

Your creativity is amazing. Monet would be proud of you giving us such different views of the same shore! That last photo is so barren it inspires creativity with its lonliness. I see it as a blank page or an empty stage waiting to be filled. Perhaps this is what inspires you?

Dennis thinks that Ohio place must be a pain in the... some of our bad weather comes from there.

Dennis has taken time from his heavy napping schedule to visit. Nice photo.

Dennis thinks that picture reminds him of Magritte but sci fi-ish . (the top floaty shot)

Deb, I'm sure it's wonderful living on the lake---and getting to see it during all seasons... Do you ever feel that it is 'talking' to you out there????

Gorgeous pictures. WOW!
Hugs,
Betsy

I like the Atlantis comparison. Very apt in a warming world, and with the ice melting!

Yes the ice has gone quickly this week and the gulls certainly have made their presence known. I love pictures of sky reflected in water.
