There's a beguiling symmetry to this sunset, the way the anvil cloud looks as if it’s holding up the higher heavens above it, even as it rests upon the shifting waters of the lake. Last week for SWF I featured the Moody Blues song, "Nights in White Satin," from the 1967 album,
Days of Future Passed. This week I'm reminded again of the Moody Blues, this time their 1970 anti-war concept album,
A Question of Balance. The pale circles in the photos are from spray. It was impossible to avoid, as I was standing right at the edge of the breakwall to get the shot, and the waves were splashing against the rocks just a few feet below. I think they add a touch of cosmic mystery to nature's own "album cover art."

You're right. I looked at the picture and thought the same thing.... it's holding up the heavens. Beautiful!
I love it when you're close enough to get sprayed, brings people right into the shot! Lovely golden colors in your symmetric sunset. Lovely!!!
those are gorgeous sunsets. we are on the oregon coast but not sunsets because of FOG!
Well, we're all thinking alike today! And, yes, how lovely to be able to stand close enough to get sprayed! Gorgeous golden colors! Marvelous shots, Deborah!
Have a great weekend!

These are beauties, Deb. It was worth the spray for sure, and yes they do all to the shot.
This must have been really late at night, or else a storm was just about to hit.
Lovely! An anvil cloud - perfect thought.
The Moody Blues - all time favorite music. I got turned on to them in college.
My post is here: Carletta’s Captures.
My goodness, your lake shots are always stunning!
Yes. the spray adds to the photo now that you've told us the story behind the spots. Lake Erie is such a photogenic body of water at sunset.
Gorgeous, Deborah! I would love to be there to listen to the water splashing against the rocks.
Such a beautiful sky. The Moody Blues are my absolute favourite and bring back such wonderful memories of summers in Ontario's cottage country.
I see a ferry boat on a come sea;)
Have a great weekend.

The gold in this is just gorgeous.
You know what that picture looks like to me? I think it's a big, huge cruise ship in the distance.... See it????
We get water spots on our pictures alot too-- when we are filming waterfalls up close. I like them!!!
Have a great day tomorrow.
Hugs,
Betsy
Some sights do take us to a different world of imagination and this is one such sight. Good you froze the moment for ever.
i love your skies and the Moody Blues song...perfect harmony.
Both lovely shots, I love those great dark clouds contrasted with the golden light.
I can't remember if I mentioned last week that Nights in White Satin used to be my personal soundtrack for awhile when I was still in junior high. These are gorgeous and evoke all sorts of internal images.
A stunning sunset! Definitely worth getting a little wet.
Magnificent, very nice and - cool.
Deborah, I know I am a week late but I am so glad I scrolled down and found this. Amazing colors and what a feeling these photos give me. So ominous and dramatic! You have really outdone yourself this time!
