A TYPICAL WEEKEND—for Pet Pride

If you were fortunate enough to get the now-sadly discontinued Far Side cartoons in your local newspaper, you may remember these as two of the best:

While the plain truth of these two cannot be denied, most dog owners, and cat owners…oh, sorry, make that cat staffers…like me, have learned (by necessity) to read pet body language, intuit behavior, listen deeply to every utterance, to decipher what is really being communicated. With patience, dedication and imagination, it can be done. Here’s a typical series of exchanges from around here, translated. Starting with Sweeney—Miss Congeniality—she never has a bad word to say about anybody, and Flash, the tenderhearted, mystical one; Pearl, the alpha diva, and Elliott, our resident Gilligan.

Me: Hey Sween, whatcha lookin' at?

Sweeney: A bird! Right there in the bushes!

Flash: (under her breath) Om mani beh meh hung
Pearl: (directed at Flash) In ancient Egypt, WE were the ones who were worshipped, fool.
Me: Oh Pearl, can’t we all just get along!

Me: Elliott, come on little buddy, let’s go…
Elliott: Wait, wait! Something visited this one when it was outside last week! I’ve got to know more…!
Me: *loud sigh* Well, sniff faster; it’s too hot out here on the porch!

Yup ... I do remember and miss Far Side. Thanks for bringing these classics to my attention this morning. Love ALL your photos and captions ... and think some are purrfect for Shadow Shot Sunday too. I'm into 'multi-tasking' whenever possible these days. Ms Kitty is featured at Small Reflections this week and my Scenic Shadow Shots are at Happily Retired Gal.
Hugs and blessings,

these are great. I always loved Far Side. I think I'm sort of a cartoon addict. They say so much in so few words.

Oh, yes! Always loved Far Side and I do miss it! Love your cats! They've obviously got so much personality and they're sooooo cute -- excuse me, elegant, graceful, brilliant and intuitive!

Enjoy, Madame Furry Ones!

I do remember -- and love-- those old Far Sides. But I'm still convinced that at least some of MY cats know their names (especially Pepper the blind cat), and I like most dog owners am convinced that my dog listens to (almost) every word I say!!

These are so true. They remind me there really isn't a whole lot to say. Just show up and be kind.

I love the Far Side and of course those are two of my favourite cartoons.
Great photos and dialogue. Have you seen our new boy, Harry? He's up on "Keepsakes".
