I’ve been trying to locate the poem below, off & on, for years, and finally on Tuesday, I found it; just in time to go with this photo I took for SWF. The tiny dotted clouds paired with the long dashes (more like stripes, actually) of sun and shadow on the water reminded me of the poem. I’m happy to be able to include it here. See how well you do; the rhyming should help you find the answers. And if you can figure out the last line, let me know; I still haven’t got it!

fun post
I'm guessing that would be "hail and farewell".
I think Bobbie's got it!!
love the dash clouds
Yes, that's certainly is it - and THANK YOU Bobbie!! It's was driving me nuts! I didn't find a date on the poem, but some of the phrases and references (like Bob and Ray) are quickly slipping out of contemporary usage and memory.
Terrific post, Deborah! I love the dash clouds and glad Bobbie came up with the words! Fun way to start the day!
Enjoy! Stay warm and dry!

Ummm... hail and tornadoes???? Leave it to me. The clouds actually remind me of morse code... I tried to learn it by listening to a CD. I can't remember any of it.
Fun post! I was thinking hail and hearty,(feeling well) since the first part is death and taxes!, (Shiver!)
Cute one, Deb...I didn't figure out the farewell one--but it's perfect.
The dots and dashes are perfect to go with that poem...
Thanks!!1
Hugs,
Betsy
What a great poem and thank you Bobbie for the answer 'cause it wasn't coming to me. The photo is lovely Deborah. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! It was fun trying to work it out. I got stumped a few times.
I just realized (as I was feeding the cats) that I haven't had any updates from your Papa Do Run blog and I know why! I took it out of the d-board when you went on hiatus, so it would pretty much be when h.e. double-hockeysticks freezes over that I would see it come up.
Heading over to rectify that now.

I recognize that from somewhere, but then my mother sent me the Reader's Digest for Christmas for about 25 years. So that is probably where I saw it to.
Pretty sky, you get a lot of peach tones, don't you?
there were a few I couldn't get...maybe when I look at it again later.
Your clouds look almost like a jet trail that broke up over time.
This is the first time I have seen the poem....I like it.
And your sky is a beauty!
I knew the hail & farewell, but not the 10th line. What is it?

@ YourFireAnt - it's Cock and Bull. that one slowed me down, too!
Clever poem, but the Morse code message in your sky made me blush!
Aloha ha ha, Friend!
Comfort Spiral
that a very apt title for the photo, I love the poem as well.

That was wonderful. Your view is gorgeous.
Now your lake is looking very oceanic today, Deb. Lovely!
Way too hard for me but fun to try. I was able to capture some sunrise colour with our first snow up at the cabin. I invite you to come see. - Margy
Cute and fun post. Happy skywatching.
What fun! I am stumped on many of the answers! Are you going to publish them eventually? Cute accompaniment to the photo! This is a great way to spice up the weekend!
I was going to say hail and well, but hail and farewell sounds more like it. Love the dots and dashes in the sky over Lake Erie.
Beautiful lines! I have not come across them before.
and here I was expecting a message in Morse code...
a small world, I am a regular reader of Tom's blog.
