“Toss me a cigarette, I think there’s one in my raincoat.”
“We smoked the last one an hour ago.”
So I looked at the scenery; she read her magazine
And the moon rose over an open field.

Music Option for those with the time and inclination: “America” – Simon and Garfunkel
The hauntingly beautiful melody and lyrics written by Paul Simon create one of the most iconic songs of the late 1960s. It was recorded by the duo for their 1968 album, Bookends, and released as a single in 1972. I always identified with this song, not just because I’m from Michigan, which is mentioned, but for the sense of seeking it so poignantly portrays, something I think we all do at least once in our lives. (Of course, the irony here is that these photos are from across the border, on the Canadian side of the lake!)

Those lines put me in mind of a Howard Hawks film. They were forever lighting cigarettes in the dark in those days.
Excellent slant on the moon-rise theme. For some reason, I can't get the phrase "Serious Moonlight" (came from a David Bowie tune, "Let's Dance") this week.
Stunning photos this week - how can you go wrong with a big, full moon?

...out of my head.
Definitely one of my favorites also, "
I'm empty and aching and I dont know why/Counting the cars on the new jersey turnpike/They've all gone to look for America..."
Such a somber scene in both rise and set. The moon is so elegant.
I missed looking at the moon, will try to remember when it comes again at the end of this month and year
One of my favorites from Simon and Garfunkle! And you and I definitely had the same view in mind for the day! Yours are really terrific!
Have a great weekend, Deborah!

I arrived a your blog and "had to make a new plan Stan" So I'll say great post and "skip out the back Jack"
That line always made me think: gosh, wouldn't it be a great time to just quit smoking? Watching the moon rise over an open field....
Really very lovely, Deb.
I never got addicted to ciggies, thank goodness!
Love the quote. It goes so well with the photos. ;-)
@ Christine - I smoked for a few years in school, but when cigs went up to 55 cents a pack, that was too much money so I quit! It must have been before the industry really started ramping the nicotine in them, though, because it was easy to stop.
I have never smoked, but enjoyed the way you tied it in with your lovely sky watch show today.
Simon and Garfunkle! - the names themselves are magic.
Your moon is so lovely.
Lovely moon shots. That blue evening color has become a favorite of mine!
nice skywatch shot share!
Happy skywatching and happy weekend!
These are really great, thanks for sharing.
All the best

Beautiful. I know what you mean about those songs.
Love the photography.
Lovely images!
I found the moon to be quite beautiful earlier this week. You've captured it well in the soft sky.
That song moves me too; reminding me or road adventures of my youth.
so much in common!

Happy SWF.

I didn't even need to listen to the video; my eyes blurred up immediately just seeing the bit quoted.
As far as "at least once in your life".... try constantly, and it never ends.
Thanks, babe!
lovely song--lovely album.
This triggered a whole meandering field of thought around music, memories, times, and lives. And it's a lovely skywatch, too.
How bizarre that you posted this song, Deborah! We were singing the lyrics a few days ago.
"Kathy I said as I boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh...
Michigan seems like a dream to me now..."
Wow. :)
What hauntingly beautiful photos!
that is one of my favorite songs
your moon is beautiful
the tree silhouettes are magnificent
I could hardly tell the difference between how the sky looked like during moonrise and moonset. But the moon is visible, and seeing it reminds me of those days as a child when I would go out to marvel at the radiant roundness of fullmoons.
Such a somber scene in both rise and set. The moon is so elegant.
How to make a website
I was about to say something on this topic. But now i can see that everything on this topic is very amazing and mind blowing, so i have nothing to say here. I am just going through all the topics and being appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
This blog aware me about different programs which can become very useful for our friends and kids. Few websites provide combined courses and few of the are separately for single subject. Glad to get this information.หนังใหม่
