I’ve been tagged by Nina over at Nature Remains, with the "Six Random Things About Me" meme. Thanks, Nina, this is the perfect entertainment for a blowy, snowy (we’re getting clipped by that Alberta Clipper after all) Saturday afternoon. So, here’s what I came up with, six random things about myself.
1) I am one (or maybe two, not sure how it should be calculated) degrees of separation from Albert Einstein. A friend of mine, when she was a youngster, lived next door to Einstein. Hers was a very musical family, and she told me she sometimes would play piano accompaniment to her famous neighbor on the violin.
2) I collect holey rocks. I’m fascinated by smooth river rocks with holes in them. I think some holes may be the result of different mineral deposits leaching out at different rates over time; others look like they were formed by eons of dripping. A few are the size of melons, some are smaller than a quarter, and everything in between. In my ancestral Celtic culture, rocks with holes in them are significant, so perhaps that’s what attracts me to them and vice versa. My friends thought I was crazy to pack them up and move them with me from Alberta to Ontario, especially since I was paying the movers by the pound, but “I don’t go anywhere without my holey/holy rocks.”
3) I can flawlessly lip-sync the entire song, “When You’re A Jet” from West Side Story, including the bits of dialogue between verses.
4) One of my secret desires is to be able to look at a piece of furniture and tell what kind of wood it’s made of.
5) Coffee is a social ritual for me. I buy organic, shade-grown, fair-trade beans, grind them fresh, use filtered water, serve in interesting mugs. And some noshes, too, of course.
6) Two moments in my life when my choice of words showed me that I had grown: One was the first time I called another adult by their first name instead of automatically deferring to them as Mr. or Mrs. The other was the first time I heard myself address a young person as “dear.”
On to the next stage. As required, here are the rules.
The rules for Six Random Facts are pretty straightforward:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.
Okay, now I’m going out on a tagging spree! And just so you know, this can be Tagging Without Obligation, so don’t worry if you're crazy busy and want to pass and wait for the next one!
