A FUN MEME - ABOUT MEME and YOUYOU, too!

I’ve been tagged by Nina over at Nature Remains, with the "Six Random Things About Me" meme. Thanks, Nina, this is the perfect entertainment for a blowy, snowy (we’re getting clipped by that Alberta Clipper after all) Saturday afternoon. So, here’s what I came up with, six random things about myself.

1) I am one (or maybe two, not sure how it should be calculated) degrees of separation from Albert Einstein. A friend of mine, when she was a youngster, lived next door to Einstein. Hers was a very musical family, and she told me she sometimes would play piano accompaniment to her famous neighbor on the violin.

2) I collect holey rocks. I’m fascinated by smooth river rocks with holes in them. I think some holes may be the result of different mineral deposits leaching out at different rates over time; others look like they were formed by eons of dripping. A few are the size of melons, some are smaller than a quarter, and everything in between. In my ancestral Celtic culture, rocks with holes in them are significant, so perhaps that’s what attracts me to them and vice versa. My friends thought I was crazy to pack them up and move them with me from Alberta to Ontario, especially since I was paying the movers by the pound, but “I don’t go anywhere without my holey/holy rocks.”

3) I can flawlessly lip-sync the entire song, “When You’re A Jet” from West Side Story, including the bits of dialogue between verses.

4) One of my secret desires is to be able to look at a piece of furniture and tell what kind of wood it’s made of.

5) Coffee is a social ritual for me. I buy organic, shade-grown, fair-trade beans, grind them fresh, use filtered water, serve in interesting mugs. And some noshes, too, of course.

6) Two moments in my life when my choice of words showed me that I had grown: One was the first time I called another adult by their first name instead of automatically deferring to them as Mr. or Mrs. The other was the first time I heard myself address a young person as “dear.”

On to the next stage. As required, here are the rules.

The rules for Six Random Facts are pretty straightforward:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Okay, now I’m going out on a tagging spree! And just so you know, this can be Tagging Without Obligation, so don’t worry if you're crazy busy and want to pass and wait for the next one!

I'm in! It sounds like fun. I will do it for my Monday post as I will be posting snow pictures tomorrow (crossing my fingers).

Thanks for including me.

I definitely look forward to doing this, Deb - it will have to be tomorrow since my mom's here for dinner and to stay overnight.

By the way, I've added you to automatic e-mail for B from the P. Hope you don't mind.

Later, friend...

Kat

I do want to do this, trying to decide what fun facts I want to tell...I have one similiar to one of yours. I have seen this meme before and tried to think of what I would tell if I were doing it. It is still going to take some thinking on my part.

I have only one holey rock and it's gone with me everywhere. I'm fascinated by it. Reminds me of Southern Utah. What is the sigcificance to the Celtic culture. Share...

"When You're a Jet". eh? That's funny. I can flawlessly lip-sync "Officer Krupke"...
and "A Boy Like That" (Who Kills Your Brother")...

#6 is my favorite. It shows insight. I want to think about when I may have had a moment that made me realize (for good or ill) that I had grown up, grown older, grown wiser... interesting thought!

Great fun to read!

fun post.

I love your secret (wood) desire. Maybe working for a furniture maker would (wood) help?

I think you are 1 degree from Albert. Since your friend was in the same room with him, she is separated from him at all.

@ MOM/CARYN,LIN et al
I read somewhere (in a book, but can't remember which one) that there is an old connection between holey rocks and wisdom. I tried to search the web for it, but, alas, found nothing. However, there is a lot of material online the Celtic pre-Christian associations with fertility - everything from having barren women step through large holey rocks to wearing small ones as amulets. Bored rocks were used, but the real prize was natural ones.

Now I see the inspiration for your doodles poem!

This was really fun to read. How cool about A.E. That is amazing.

I guess you might know that I share your passion for organic, shade grown coffee and holey rocks... I have them in every corner of the house. Rocks not beans; well, maybe beans. Ever hear of buzz bombs?

@ CHRISTINE
A great place for holey rocks near you is Hammer Dam, especially when the water is low. Juanita can tell/show you where if you're so inclined. It's a wonderful spot full of sprites and fairies; great place for a camera, too.

I love holed rocks too. I was always told you can see Faery when you look through them but they are good for looking into all sorts of other worlds too :o)
