night draws softly nigh
warm currents thread through cool air
one last bird sings, then...

Such a lovely little verse.
and I enjoyed the firefly video so much. Brought back memories of long evenings, catching fireflies, and watching them sit on my finger nad shine their little lamps.

Dear Deborah--
I loved this--the video was so sweet!! Who is the big black dog at the end?

Who are those lovely young women?

And who, pray tell, are those tamed fireflies!!

Much love--

Cute Video,Deb... Down here in the south, we call them "Lightning Bigs" and not fireflys. Don't know why--but I grew up with them--and have them where we are now. One got in the house one time and we saw his light in our curtains. I got him and set him free.

Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Deborah -- love the poem, you leave it to the reader to finish the thought of what come next, although the video gives one lovely suggestion. There are no fireflies (or lightening bugs) out on the west coast. As a child the best part of going to Virginia (from California) in the summer was the fireflies.

A lovely post. Most enjoyable.

I enjoy your words, and I also wonder if there are lightening bugs common all over the US or are they an eastern thing? Need to think and look that up...wonder if there is any kid that hasn't played with them.

that's fascinating. I've only seen fireflies once when I was on vacation in Missouri. We don't have them in the west that I know of.

That is a wonderful image. There is a place I like to walk where I experience the warm breeze and the birds' song. Magic.

"one last bird sings"

That final clinching moment as the night sky stitches itself into the horizon. I really enjoyed your poem. Thank you.

I have fond recollections of doing the same in my youth growing up in Maryland. They are my favorite insect by far ...

Fireflies bring back the most wonderful childhood memories! I remember chasing them w/ my jar and then tripping over my dog and breaking it and crying. But it was still wonderful! :)

Just a nice peaceful evening in the offing. Adding to the setting was, "then ..." and the fireflies come out per your hint.
Guess you noted I had fireflies also, they were to light the children's way.

Chasing lightning bugs was a favorite evening pass time when I was a child here in Georgia.

...just before night chased the twilight away.
