I just finished checking the online events calendar for my town (Leamington, Ontario) looking to find something related to Cinco de Mayo, but alas, there's nothing. And now that I think of it, I don't recall big events other in other years either. No parades, no street dancing, no restaurant tour; in a word - nada! I can't understand this. Leamington is a huge produce-growing area (it's known as the "Tomato Capital of Canada") with both al fresco farms and legions of greenhouses. There's a resident Mexican population working in the greenhouses and the Heinz plant all year, and it balloons with migrant workers in the warm months. You'd think it would be a very big deal here. Anyway, not being one to let an opportunity pass to appreciate some wonderful Mexican culture, I went straight to YouTube. Here are two short videos, one of some young girls dancing, and one of a very talented bird.
And as long as I'm celebrating, I'm going to pass along my own good news. My most recent book of poems, World of Wonders, has won a Silver award from Nautilus Book Awards. I submitted a copy to them last fall because I liked their focus:
Recognizing Books and Audio Books that Promote Spiritual Growth,
Conscious Living, and Positive Social Change
and stimulate the "imagination" and inpire the reader
to "new possibilities" for a better world.
You know, I just might pick up a sixer of those cute little mini-Coronas and a lime on my way home from town this afternoon! It's going to be lovely and warm. Anybody care to join me by the lake?

CONGRATULATIONS!
If I don't make it to your lakeside, I'll have one in your honour by ours (in Burlington).
Now must see if I can find a copy.

CONGRATULATIONS INDEED! That is such wonderful news Deborah! I do indeed wish I could join you at the lake -- would that be fun, or what? I will toast you with a delightful Margarita as I always celebrate Cinco de Mayo since living in Mexico for a year after I retired. And we can celebrate diversity in general!!!
Well, Congratulations! That is just wonderful for you. I'm going to have to go looking for your books.
Thanks for the videos. I haven't checked them out yet, but will immediately after I write this.
Rest assured, by the way, the littlest Hornby chick is getting plenty to eat. The mama seems to be very careful to distribute it equally.
Congratulations Deborah, wonderful news. And well deserved I might add. Keep a cool frosty ready for me, ok!!!
Hugs, G
That is just fantastic news. So well deserved, I might add!! You know I am a big fan. Your lovely book has its own special place in our living room for all to enjoy whoever visits our home. Just wonderful, Deb!
congratulations on your award first of all! You are such a talented writer and its nice to know that you've been recognized!
2nd - how terrible is this - my husband is hispanic and we both forgot it was Cinco de Mayo! I'll bring the salsa music over to your house along w/ the hubby's world famous guacamole.
Most of my family lives in Mexico including my parents, one daughter and 2 brothers and their families. Today is Mom's birthday, so I know there will be a party. So nice to know where you live now. I am surprised that the Mexican population is not celebrating.
Congrats on you award!! Keep writing!
Congratulations!
(I'm SO jealous ;-)
