...LIKE WATER OFF A DUCK'S BACK

The weather website for my town and county is calling for "isolated showers" later today and tomorrow. I'm putting in my request right now to be ignored. It's not that my front yard wouldn't love it, but the lake winds are so strong right now (37-54km or 23-45mph) that the waves and spray hitting my back yard are towering over my breakwall even higher than the ones I posted a week or so ago. There's about a one second delay between the peak of the spray and the sound of it hitting my back windows. Sometimes it sounds like rice being thrown, sometimes it's like someone trained a hose on the glass! The drainage is getting a bit overwhelmed, and I'm hoping I don't get any problems like my neighbor has - remember the warped breakwall and the sink hole? He hasn't even had time to fill it in yet, so who knows what will happen over there.

Anyway, it's a helpless feeling, having storms of any kind. I heard there's tornado activity in Ohio right now (we could get it too) and the wind-fanned fires are back in California as well. Wish I could send them some of this! We sure don't need any rain on the lake side, but at least it isn't life-threatening. But we all just have to wait it out. And then, if you're me, go out after with a kitchen-catcher bag and a pair of BBQ tongs and pick up all the yucky plastic flotsam that's been carried over onto the lawn.

These photos are blurry because I shot them through the window, because of all the spray flying around. Then I thought I might open the door and try to get a quick shot between waves, but the wind was blowing so hard, I couldn't push the door open!! There birds have forsaken the feeders. The only one who doesn't seem to mind is the mallard, still scarfing seed under the red maple tree, with the water rolling off his back like, well...

Another small look at your world. I don't think I care much for this one. The storm - yes. I usually enjoy storms. But the aftermath - no.

Those waves are enormous!! I can almost hear them! And I know it's spring, but it looks cold and wet! We have beautiful sunshine today, still a little cool, but beautiful! Hope the wind lets up soon! Enjoy the weekend -- if possible!

What a detailed moment you have captured in so few words. I felt I was there. I would be loving the wind about now.

Hi Deborah! I love storms and would probably be sitting there watching.
I hope there is no damage to your property. Lisa

Deb, I'll bet you have trouble keeping your windows shined! I know that storms are scary, but they are exciting, too. If it gets really bad, you better rope yourself to the door, like people used to do in blizzards.

I love to be out in the woods when the wind is blowing, and the tree are knocking together!

More rain! Oh no!

Your photos are really great--true water colors!

Here in the east we've been having not-so-scattered showers for weeks, though nothing nearly so intense as what you so vividly describe--I almost envy you the intensity, while also thinking "wow, that'd be kinda scary"....

By the way, I found your "a little off topic" comment on my blog quite interesting. I knew that the "skull and roses" illustration was taken from a version of the Rubaiyat, but not that it was originally in black and white. If I had known, I would've tried to find an image of the original on-line and used it for the post, as I was really trying to minimize the Grateful Dead connection, anyway....

Wow, it's like you live with big water, as I do residing on my boat.
Very cool, nature lover ;-)

Scary! I have an unhealthy fear of the power of water. All of those lovely Thomas Kincaid paintings of the peaceful lighthouses make me cringe. I know lighthouses are frightening and lonely places. Pretty, like your pictures... but full of the threat of danger.

I'll add my name to the list of those that are praying for all to be well with your and your neighbors.

Your photos would be beautiful to me, like a Kincaid painting, if they didn't represent a threat... especially to you.

Oo, er! Scary! Peace be unto you!

Holy Moly. I can't believe some of that weather from south of you is reaching up that far but it appears to be. They had inland hurricanes on Friday in IL where our son is flying to tomorrow. They are just now restoring power to thousands. Hang on... I'm sure you'll get some relief from that wave action soon.

we just went thru days and days of showers, drizzle, thunderstorms, rains, all types. and winds all types too. thank you for always being so thoughtful to send your weather this way ...seriously I'm happy for any Canadian winds, even Alberta Clippers.
