High winds whipped up the water all afternoon, and splashed spray up to the sky, as if trying to douse the sun’s fire. At day's end, the molten ball won out, and the waves roared in their defeat all night in the dark.

wow I can see the splashes, quite a photo there..
Super photo of the water leaping about on the quay; by the way, is there a place to put a boat in there at your shoreline?
"...as if trying to douse the sun's fire."
Magnificent, Deborah.
the lake is dancing for you!
Oh, I love being able to see the water leaping and "trying to douse the sun's fire"! You do say it so well, as always, Deborah. Gorgeous colors and sunset! I agree with Dianne, too, the lake is dancing for you!
Have a great weekend! Stay warm!

Wonderful captures. I love to sit and listen to waves crashing in... such a beautiful song.
I see the spray! Great photo of an angry lake!
Beautiful close to a stormy day.
Wild photos! Good captures!
I always like your lovely water shots. Thank you for sharing.
Love that first picture, Deb... Seeing the water splash up to the sky is totally awesome. What a neat picture!
Glad the sun won though!!!
Hugs,

Wonderful shots of the water and the skies. Great skywatch photos.
I can hear and feel that breeze off the water!
What an insanely beautiful place to live and skywatch.

Great captures!
I am surrounded by boring tall buildings here.
marvelous images!!!
So lovely. I never tire viewing photos (or real life) of the sky. Enjoyed the meaning of feng shui.
Isn't it amazing how the water can be calm at one moment and whipped into waves the next? I live on a lake and I know how that can happen. I guess that's the trade off. I invite you to come see my clearing skies. - Margy
You certainly captured the force of the high winds and splashing waves in the first image!A beauty of a sunset!
I thought about you as I flew from Cleveland to Toronto this week and watched the setting sun illuminate Lake Erie. After that, the full moon shone above the heavy cloud that covered Toronto. The sky is so interesting!
Deb, these are so beautiful!
simply beautifully captured shots...lovely colours & the moments!
Deborah, just perfect! I love the spray of water smashing against the breakwall! So much drama!
I love your choice of words and the way you personified the waves, especially.
